End of an Era in the Music and Performing Arts Department
Posted 19th December 2024
Our much-loved Head of Music, Dawn Lowther, is retiring from teaching after an amazing career serving the Bradford community and showing unwavering commitment to our Trust for almost 3 decades. Dawn started out her life at Dixons as a peripatetic piano tutor and soon became woven into the fabric of the department, expanding into classroom teaching and eventually leading the department. With her meticulous attention to detail in her planning of lessons and events, her patient and kind demeanour and her relentless hard work she has changed many lives immeasurably. She knows her students and colleagues inside out and understands how to help individuals to flourish and shine in whatever they do. The high standards she sets are inspirational and she tempers this with a sprinkle of fun, so that every performance always sees students joyfully engaging in their music making and sense of community with others. The legacy she leaves is tangible both within the walls of DCA but also beyond, as we have had so many wonderful messages and stories of the impact she has had from alumni wishing her well. It is with great sadness that we bid her farewell, but we wish her a long, happy and healthy retirement with many happy memories of a fulfilling and fruitful career.
